Sheena Birrittella is a Los Angeles based composer. Her experience encompasses an array of genres for film, television, media, and concert music. She has collaborated as a composer and music editor on high-profile projects including Dollface, Angelyne, Tiger King, Reno 911, Yellowjackets, Under the Boardwalk, among many others. Recent works include the score to the film Mother Comes To Venus, directed and produced by Zackary Drucker and Emmy award winner Jill Soloway. This intersectional film premiered at Outfest and features rapper Mykki Blanco and actress Alexandra Grey. Sheena also wrote the score for the comedic series BIFL, exploring the complexities of identity and heartbreak; and a gritty and emotional fiddle score for the Western Railcar Lily. Other recent works include the scores for two award-winning documentaries: Better Together, narrated by Christopher Lloyd; and Cancer: An Integrative Perspective directed by Nathan Crane. Sheena recently completed a concert project as one of the composers for the opera Magdalene, described by the New York Times as “exposed, intelligent, and earnest.” Set to Marie Howe’s poetry, the opera transports the audience into a world of desire and transformation.
Sheena has worked with top film and television composers such as Craig Wedren, Jonathan Sadoff, Anna Waronker, Penka Kouneva, Jeff Russo, and Shie Rozow. She has written music for Emmy and BAFTA-winning Bleeding Fingers Music as well as licensing companies Imaginary Friends Music and We Are All In Productions. Her music has premiered at venues such as HERE Arts Center, The Wild Beast, Roy O. Disney Concert Hall, and The Bootleg Theater. Sheena had the honor of being selected as a composer for SESAC Scores Beck Diversity Project in Los Angeles, as well as the Society of Composers and Lyricists Associate Mentor Program. After studying in the Music in The Mountains Young Composers Symposium for five years, Sheena graduated from the Composition Department at the California Institute of the Arts and UCLA’s Film Scoring Program.
